COMMUNITY-BASED STREET INTERVENTION PROGRAM
P R O G R A M G O A L S
CALLES is a program that works directly with youth and young adults on the street to offer intervention and alternatives to violence and involvement with the juvenile justice system since 1980. This collaborative effort emphasizes youth leadership development, cultural and political awareness, and positive activities. CALLES offers individual youth and family advocacy, specialized Intensive Home Based Supervision advocacy; street based outreach, as well as late night diversion programming.

CALLES provides street level intervention and prevention outreach primarily in San Francisco's Mission District by connecting with community members during late night outreach, weekly canvassing of schools and neighborhood hotspots to defuse potentially violent situations and make referrals to other support services.
Street outreach services occur at local middle and high schools, community locations and detention settings where violence is identified and/or prevalent. Strategic contacts are made to prevent and intervene in incidences that may lead to serious street violence. Selected outreach will also be performed to support the de-escalation of violence caused by identified priority groups in order to educate and prevent community violence.

For 40 years CALLES has provided educational and gang/turf related workshops to help better serve the most high-risk population in San Francisco. We conduct workshops for schools, community-based organizations, and community groups interested in knowing about CALLES and our approach to violence prevention and reduction.
We also provide support to communities impacted by violence through rapid response as community monitors and peace promoters in our community. We often staff community outings, peace marches, vigils, such as the Mission Night walks, and other activities.

CALLES is focused primarily in the Mission, Excelsior, SOMA/Tenderloin neighborhoods, but shifts coverage according to neighborhood trends and operates citywide.
